Matilda
Hi, my name is Matilda. I come to the shop with Jenni every day and I’m in charge of customer service (though you’ll often find me asleep in the office or playing in the puppy pen). I was born on 31st March 2009 so I’m still a bit young and silly but I’m really just a big sook and love cuddles.
Lucky, Daisy, Minnie and Lilly
We love rats so we have rescued a few over the years. Unfortunately they don't live for long, especially when they are not well, but we give every rescue rat lots of TLC so they can enjoy what remaining time they have.
Lucky was found in a small cage, with no food or water in December 2008. After a vet check he was given the all clear so we adopted him as our own. He has been desexed and is a lovely, smoochy boy. Sadly Lucky finally lost his struggle with life on 23rd December 2010.

Daisy was found in January 2009 with a litter of pinky rats in a cage with boy rats so after she finally made it through her second litter we adopted her as our own. Sadly, Daisy passed away on the 31st March 2010 due to unknown reasons. She had been on medication but wasn’t strong enough to pull through.

Minnie was a very special little rat. She had a very rotten life that unfortunately shortened her lifespan. She was adopted by someone wanting to breed for snake food so the poor little girl was left in a pen with a male who constantly tried to mate with her. Not surprisingly, Minnie became very sick and would’ve died had we not saved her and taken her to the vet. She was so sickly when we first got her that we had no idea she was pregnant until a week before she gave birth. She was a lovely mum and despite our efforts to improve her health, we had to adopt her to someone who could give her the TLC she deserved. She was adopted to a lovely young lady who took very good care of her until she died late 2009.

In April 2010 we adopted another rescue rat into our family. Lilly was found in someone’s garden and despite efforts to find her original owner, no one claimed her. She unfortunately ended up with the dreaded respiratory disease that rats are prone to and lost her battle in late 2010.
Bugsy
Bugsy was quite feral when we took over the shop in Dec 08 but his whistling indicated that he must have been tame at some point. So Jess (staff) started handling him and Bugsy turned out to be a beautiful bird. Sadly he got sick and we had to adopt him to a new home. He will be missed but never forgotten!!

Bart and Pete
Bart and Pete are cinnamon green-cheeked conures. We got them as babies in 2009 and hand raised them in store. We fell in love with their personalities so they have now become our resident clowns. Bart is named after Bart Simpson and has the personality to match. ‘Pirate’ Pete has a crooked leg but has no trouble getting around and hanging upside down in the cage (don’t worry, he’s been checked by the bird vet and given the all clear)

Ruby & the Gang
Ruby is a red devil and she shares her tank with Ned, the convict, several sharks, a huge Plecostomus and 2 bristlenose catfish. It’s not the ideal aquarium but because the tank is so big and we have plenty of things for everyone to hide in, somehow it works. Ruby was for sale when we first took over the shop in 2008 but when we found out she had been in a small tank for several months we decided to put her in the display tank under the front counter. She loves to rearrange the gravel so we try to make it different for her when we do tank maintenance.
